About to Alight
(Dox 12 Engine)
16 1/2" x 26 1/2"
Charcoal on board
undated

This charcoal depicts a plane that was ahead of its time. The Dornier model X was Claude Dornier's dream version of what we would call a Jumbo Jet today. It was the world's largest plane for several decades. It could carry 160 people in luxury. Two were build for the Italian government and were both scrapped by the late 1930's. The plane was underpowered with its water cooled engines and was prone to mechanical breakdown.

The watermark that appears on the web images are not on the prints.
