Fokker Triplane (Framed)
9" x 11 1/2"
(Image Size)
Watercolor On Paper
Painted in France, 1918

"Type of plane in which the
Red Baron met his death"
Type D.R.I

On a seperate sheet of paper, MacGilchrist later wrote the following: "It had been reported that the fuselage on a downed Fokker Triplane was constructed of welded steel tubing. However, the first time I saw this type of fuselage construction was on a Fokker DVII which had crashed after a 'dog fight'. I made a sketch of this which was later incorporated in a copper plate etching. Unfortunately only four proofs of this plate were hand printed. The wash on this watercolor of a Fokker Triplane froze during its painting. Somewhere in northern France-West of Combrai as I recall."

The watermark that appears on the web images are not on the prints.
